Above: Get spooked at Holland Park's haunted walk
31 October
Get spooked this Halloween at the Haunted Park Walk in the Kyoto Garden, Holland Park. Follow the trail of glowing lanterns to the interactive installation by Quadratura. It takes its theme from the ancient game of Hyakumonogatari Kaidankai (A Gathering of 100 Ghostly Tales). At these gatherings 100 candles were lit and the players would each tell a ghost story. After each one, a single candle was blown out. The game was an evocation of the spirits and with the extinguishing of the final candle, something terrible would be waiting in the darkness…

An old Edwardian theatre on Chamberlayne Road is getting a revamp under the guiding hand of entrepreneur Sally Wilton to open as London’s first not-for-profit community venue. All profits from Pinkham Lighthouse will go to The Sustainability Institute, a thriving eco-village in the heart of South Africa’s Winelands area, just outside Cape Town. To celebrate, cinema fans are invited to free charity screenings at the 80-seat chic Lexi Cinema.

We love any excuse to shop, so when we saw that all funds from the Gift of Sight Fair’s extravaganza, in aid of St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital, serves people in need in East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, we didn’t need any further reason. The brainchild of Lauretta Ridley, Chair of The Guild, the even encompasses fashion, jewellery, shoes, gifts, gourmet food, beauty products, make-up makeovers and an exotic Indian Bazaar.

Get down to the Cobdeb Club for Leviathan, an evening of short plays inspired by Thomas Hobbes’ tome of power and society. “We’ve written a statement that picks out the most interesting things of the book,” explains co-director Vicky Graham, “Writers given them have written pieces around that statement, pieces we’ll dramatise into 15-minutes performances with professional actors.” The audience will be requested to give feedback at the end of the evening on what they feel does and doesn’t work dramatically, with one work developed into a full-length play in the future.
